Is Lumen Pay a bank?
Lumen Pay is an electronic money institution. Money in your current account is safeguarded in segregated accounts at major banks, so it's kept separate from our own funds. Savings vaults are held by our banking partner, Halcyon Mutual Bank, and are protected up to £85,000 by the Northern Deposit Guarantee Scheme.
How fast are transfers, really?
Payments between Lumen members arrive instantly. Our median last month was 0.8 seconds. Domestic bank transfers in the UK usually land within a minute, and international transfers to our 38 local-account countries arrive the same working day.
Are there hidden fees on currency exchange?
No. We use the mid-market rate with no mark-up. On the Free plan exchange is fee-free up to £1,000 a month, then 0.5%. Plus and Ultra members get unlimited fee-free exchange. At weekends a small 0.3% buffer applies while markets are closed, but we always show it before you confirm.
What happens if I lose my card?
Freeze it from the home screen with one tap. If it turns up, unfreeze it just as quickly. If not, order a replacement in the app. A virtual card is ready instantly so you can keep paying while the new physical card is on its way.
Can I share an account with my partner or flatmates?
Yes. Shared vaults let up to eight Lumen members save and spend together, with each person's contributions shown clearly. Joint current accounts for two people are available on every plan.
How do I move my salary to Lumen?
Share your Lumen account number and sort code with your employer. You'll find them under Account details. Our switching service can also move your direct debits and standing orders across from your old bank in seven working days.
